There are new complications in the life of beleaguered Tom Cruise. It's been 7 years since he pulled the plug on his partnership with Nicole Kidman. In that time Nic has been at best a laissez-faire mother. In fact her harshest critics feel that she was much more into her career and her new marriage, than she was into the children she and Tom adopted together. While Nicole pursued movie roles, and worked on her eating disorder, it was Tom that oversaw the children's upbringing. In fairness to Cruise, he was a very concerned and involved father.

Well it looks like the situation is beginning to change. For one thing Nicole has bought a new pad right next to Tom's 35 million Casa del Cruise in Brentwood. Nic and tom share joint custody, and Nic was entitled to the kids 50% of the time. Tom's argument was that if she was really interested in the children, then she should move to LA, instead of expecting them to make a lot for plane trips to and from Australia. Now Nic has called his bluff, and sources say that she intends to get every minute of time that she's entitled to.

So what could be behind the sudden change? Some say now that Nicole is 'allegedly' expecting (I wonder when she grew a uterus??), she's come over all maternal. She feels guilty about her 7 years of narcissism and neglect, and is hoping to make it up to her kids by way of spending more time with them. Also she maybe hoping that Isabella and Connor will bind with her new child, expected sometime this July.

Others think that this may be a case of good old fashioned Hollywood egoism. Since Katie Homes married Tom, she's become heavily involved in the lives of his two kids. She attends their sports event, helps them with their home work, and does regular 'soccer mom' chauffeur duty. The crafty wench has even gone so far as to treat Isabelle to expensive shopping trips, and spent tons of Tom's money in an attempt to win the girl over.

There are those who say that Katie's developing relationship with Connor and Isabella may be the real issue for Nicole. Sometime last year the kids began referring to Kidman as "Nicole" instead of mom. Nic didn't seem to have too much trouble with that. Then she caught wind that they were starting to refer to Katie as "Mom". That's when it hurt. Nicole seemed to decide that Tom had too much influence over them, and she was determined to weigh in.

Nicole's sudden rediscovery of motherhood might prove to be a fly in Cruise's ointment. He apparently has his kid's lives pretty tightly regulated. In fact they are even 'home schooled' by Cruise's sister Cass. This is in addition to the tons of time they spend at Gold Center - the Scientology Celebrity Headquarters. Nicole's capricious fits of motherhood may disrupt Tom's plans, especially if she makes a habit of barging in unannounced, and demanding her 'kid time' when it's most inconvenient. If this is some kind of ego trip, that's almost certainly what she will do. You know how it can be with divorced folks when kids get caught up in the middle. So as Tom and the ex become neighbors, look for this one to get alot more interesting in days to come.

BTW as if Cruise's life wasn't complicated enough, look for him to return to the scene of the crime, and show up on Oprah Winfrey sometime soon. Will this visit be as memorable as his last? Ya see Dr Phil, that's how you get ratings!
