If we can find solace in the thought that how ever bad off we may be, there's some poor son of a bitch out there who's got it worse, then this is a great day to be Sir Paul McCartney. The former Beatle recently got through the mother of all divorces, with the wife from hell. Heather Mills was a woman so strongly disliked that even other women said it would be right if Paul had beat the crap out of her (Note to readers - Wondertrash is not in any way condoning violence against women. You must never raise your hand to a woman under any circumstances - unless she is Heather Mills, and no matter what the provocation. Not even if you wake up in the middle of the night and find her trying to cut your penis off. In such a situation, remain calm, ask her if they is some way you can work things out, or maybe try and think how you can be more supportive. Just so we're all clear on that!). Sir Paul seems to have come through his trial a little wiser, and much sadder. I had feared that we might lose him during the divorce proceedings, especially when he was rushed to the emergency ward once or twice, with chest pains.
The McCartney divorce was so ugly that it seemed hard to top, but lo and behold, it has been topped. There is currently a divorce proceeding underway in New York, that has raised the bar for disgraceful divorce conduct. The principles in this ugly little drama (full of sound and fury) are theater impresario Phillip Smith of Schubert Organization, and his lovely wife, some 25 years his junior, Tricia Walsh-Smith. What makes this particular divorce a ground breaker, and certainly a trend setter, is that Mrs Walsh-Smith is taking her case to the court of public opinion via youtube!
Mrs Walsh-Smith signed an iron clad prenup. Now usually that would be an open and shut case. However the ingenious Mrs WS has found a novel way around it. She has decided to document her experience, and post it to youtube, perhaps with the hopes of embarrassing her husband into backing down and giving in. For instance her colorful entry features a near hysterical Mrs Walsh-Smith calling her husband's secretary, to ask what he wants done with some of his personal items left in her apartment. The items consist of porno tapes, condoms, and Viagra. Prior to the call, Mrs Smith has given her viewers the back ground, explaining that her husband is 25 years older than she is, that his withered, limp cock was incapable of satisfying her, and that he claimed he couldn't have sex with her anyway, because of his high blood pressure. Before the call is over, Mrs Smith make sure to inform the secretary that she has a film crew present, and that she is making a youtube video. Now that oughta' help old Phil's blood pressure!
While most people are aghast, Trisha's lawyer is describing this as a brilliant move. "Revolutions are made by the powerless" says her attorney, and adds "in the information age their is no such thing as privacy" for good measure. Now that last part wasn't an original line on the lawyer's part. Marshall McLuhan said it first.
Most people seem to think that the woman is unhinged. They also think she's knows exactly what she's doing. This is a pressure tactic, to make her husband cave under public humiliation, and there by circumvent the prenup. I can't help thinking that Dr Phil McGraw might try and weight into this fray, as a focus for his ill intentioned meddling, and as a grab for some sure fire ratings. "No matter how slimy you folk's think I am, you still gotta see this shit!" Either way you look at it, it seems that a reality star is born! This kind of morbid spectacle is a guaranteed attention grabber, on a train wreck, car crash spectacle (Imagine the space shuttle landing, with the Pope on board, and on fire!) level. It couldn't come at a worse time for beleaguered NBC either. About the only upside to this is that heather Mills didn't think of it first, or the world might be down to it's last Beatle now. Well this is the information age, so we might as well brace ourselves. Besides, why should you worry? What have you got to hide??
Check Trisha out @ her youtube channel WalshSmith1 Though her channel has only been up a week, she already has over 1300 subscribers (including me!). You just know this is gonna be the topic of water cooler conversation for the next month or so.
Wondertrash thought of the day:
The moment we are enlightened within, we go beyond the voidness of a world confronting us.
