Ahead by a Nose?

Meanwhile, back in the world of the trans mundane, word has it that Paula Abdul has fallen down and broken her nose. The spin on this little doozie could go 360 degrees at once! Now the official story is that Paula tripped up on her pet chihuahua. The story has everything, including America's most 'beliked' TV personality, plus the miniature dogs that Paris Hilton has done so much for (Really Hilton should get an environmental award, since she's done more for the chihuahua, than Heather Mills ever did for seals!). The only problem is that you're 1st response to the story is "You've gotta be kidding!".

Other possible explanations for Paula's bent beak include: fell down while loaded, and thought of excuse while hung over. That's plausible, since Abdul is a well known lush ( I hear that it happens a lot to single middle aged woman), and has even appeared on TV 'under the influence'. Also there is some buzz that Abdul has indulged in yet more plastic surgery, and doesn't want to appear vain and shallow, in front of her TV fans. My favourite is that this is some 'kooky' plan by Simon Cowell, the master of hype, to beef up rating for the American Idol season finale. Buzz was that viewers were dissatisfied with the way the voting went, especially the selection of the 2 finalists. Some commentators said that they had even lost interest in a showdown between Jordon, and Blake. So Cowell hit the panic button, and came up with an attention grabber. Let's face it, aren't you going to tune in tonight, to take a peep at Paula? If things are that desperate on Idol, maybe they should've hung on to Sanjaya. Seeing how far he could go generated genuine suspense!

Paula Abdul's broken conk aside, some other assorted odds and ends in the new, which may or may not be true, are:

Michael Richards is working on a new "Inoffensive" comedy routine. It's based on the life of a middle aged, struggling comedian and former TV star, and his only companion, his pet cat. Richards denies swiping it from the Saturday Night Live sketch about Toonces the driving cat, maintaining that he is firmly in the driver's seat of this production. Further more he insists that the show features original material. For instance, when a worried friend scolds Richards about spending to much time with the cat, and reminds him that "it's only an animal" - Richards responds by firmly clamping his hands over the cat's ears, and telling the friend, "Shh! I'm trying to shield him from the truth until he's older". Richards is hoping that this will play off the zany Kramer character from Seinfeld. It's dynamite material, too. Trouble is that there isn't much more of it, at the moment.

Of Mice & Maniacs

Now from cats to mice. Cartoon mice are making more mischief. That shouldn't come as any surprise to ardent TV viewers. What might be a shock is that the pesky little varmints are now meddling in geo politics! Fa-far the Mouse is a Mickey rip off, and Disney Inc. is afraid to touch him. Why, you might well ask. Disney is usually quite fearless about unleashing the horde of lawyers onto nay Mom and Pop operation that remotely infringes on their copyrights. Well Fa-far is very well connected. He's the host of a children's show in Palestine, and is sponsored by Ham as. Among other things, he exhorts children to remember their homeland, and commit themselves to driving the invading infidels out! Disney considers this potato to hot to handle, and so Fa-far is safe, for a while.

Still, Militant Mouse might want to beware. The creative team behind Fa far find the politics a little stifling, and so are thinking of taking the show in new directions, and introducing new characters. One writer was excited to announce plans to add a cartoon cat, wearing a yarmulke, to the show. Each week, Fa far would foil the cat's attempts to be a spoil sport. Sounds like viewing fun!

Mad Dogs & Englishmen

Now I enjoyed America's Funniest Home Video's as much as anyone, but I can't help thinking that this is taking the humour a little far! Then again, political satire has always been controversial, and above the heads of many of us. What happened to clips of people getting their genitals caught in swimming pool vents? Maybe we should return to kinder, gentler humour, by way of the BBC's PANORAMA?

Wasn't that amusing? You can't beat the Brits when it comes to dry humour! If your appetite for witty repartee has been whetted, then here's the rest of the documentary.

Remember to keep laughin'!
